In 2010 our life took root on an island off the West Coast of Canada.  This place in the world is small enough to feel familiar no matter where you find yourself in it, and big enough to continually harness curiosity and wonder.  Here, we live life by observing and engaging with nature and each other.  We work on our dreams every morning.  We make art, music, and food.  We embrace change and the challenges and gifts it offers.

To be seen is so very important.  This is true for humans and the natural world alike.  We are designed to witness life.  Our eyes, our ears, our hands, the ‘souls’ of our feet, are all perfectly sculpted to feel and see and hear all that is.  Art is how we process and share.  Dreams offer awareness into our own personal nature and how it relates and interacts with the world we are a part of.

Being an immigrant has awarded me the unique perspective that the political borders I live within and social boundaries that exist around me alone do not shape my life or who I am. I am a being of the earth, with nature, art and dreams as some of the constants in my life.  It is how I make sense of everything. My focus is interior first, the imagination, the world of dreams. The rest follows.

In 2010 while visiting Galiano Island for the first time I had the following dream.

“In the dream I awake to a flood that covered the earth leaving only a handful of people alive. Only the mountain tops remained above water. I am safe and well above the water line with my family Jimena, Paz and Ignacio. A first nation’s man and young girl are our companions and only other survivors in the area. We live in a small cave in the mountain side. I am reassured knowing that we have everything we need and are safe.”

I woke up with a great enthusiasm and excitement that our search for home was over and we had found where we needed to be. Since I was a child I have been a dreamer. I came to trust their teachings later in life and learned to follow their wisdom. A day rarely goes by without first looking at my dream. Then I let the day unfold accordingly.
